At 360 Spine and Ortho, our surgeons have worked with numerous patients that come to us having had surgery previously that has either failed or done well for a period, and then symptoms returned. There can be various causes for a failed back or neck surgery.

In the neck, frequently it’s treated with a fusion in front. At times, the treating surgeons do not adequately open the tunnels or the foramen with this fusion. This case be addressed through a revision surgeon, whereas the outcome would be to widen the canals to a larger degree to give the spinal cord and nerve root branches room to function without irritation.

The prior fusion may also lead to adjacent segment wear. That means wear at the level above or below the fusion. It is not particularly difficult, in many cases, for our surgeons at 360 Spine and Ortho to treat these adjacent segments through a minimally invasive technique and achieve decompression and thereby reduce or eliminate the debilitating symptoms of chronic neck and back pain.
